40th Anniversary of Music in Plymouth!

Music in Plymouth celebrated its 40th anniversary on Tuesday, July 3 with a terrific line up of musical and family entertainment featuring the 451st Army Reserve Band, Scottie Miller, The R-Factor (formerly Rupert’s Orchestra) and the Minnesota Orchestra. The evening’s festivities were rounded out with T-6 Thunder WW-II era planes in a stunning flyover, Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater and Funtime Funktions fire dancers. The fireworks display that ended the evening is consistently rated among the state’s best and it did not disappoint. See photos of the entire event, as well as the Music in Plymouth 5K which was run on June 30, by clicking here.

Al Hilde, Jr., Plymouth’s mayor, formed a citizen committee, the Plymouth Civic League (PCL) to sponsor the concert of the Minnesota Orchestra in Plymouth in an effort to promote community identity and spirit. Today, Music in Plymouth (MIP) has become an annual summer extravaganza eagerly anticipated by residents of Plymouth and surrounding communities; more than 15,000 people bring their picnic suppers, enjoy the pre-concert activities and then sit back and revel in the starlight concert in the Hilde Performance Center with its accompanying fireworks. The entire evening’s events are simulcast on large screens that have been added to enhance visual accessibility for the crowd.

The continued growth and success of Music in Plymouth depends on the commitment of individuals and businesses that make their home in the community. You can join the many other civic-minded Plymouth businesses to become a valuable part of this long-standing tradition. Your contribution to the annual operating fund will ensure that thousands of people are able to gather in the heart of Plymouth for a spectacular evening of music, fireworks and community spirit.

The Plymouth Civic League accepts tax-deductible cash and material contributions in eight categories. 100% of all contributions go toward the cost of Music in Plymouth.
